Paintings in the Tradition of the Old Masters

Experience the exquisite beauty of race- and sporthorses in the paintings of Southern California artist Joy Aoki. Drawing upon classical training and influences of the Old Masters — primarily Rembrandt, de la Tour and Caravaggio — Joy creates an atmosphere of quiet strength, dignity and restrained power. Warm glows effuse her subjects, capturing them in a moment in time, yet evoking a sense of timelessness. As such, her artwork is a unique vision of horses and their world.

Joy accepts a limited number of painting commissions per year. Her work is supported by painstakingly detailed craftsmanship and the highest quality materials. Each piece of art is subject to meticulous drawings and sketches; and all canvases are built, sized and primed by hand, often using imported Belgian linens. She uses only the finest, lightfast-tested oil colours by W&N, Sennelier and Holbein to ensure that every piece of art stands the test of time.
